New Carnegie Stand on Target

After the Wembley construction debacle Leeds Rhinos fans were relieved to hear news that the new Carnegie Stand is on target for its opening day. Leeds Rugby chief executive Gary Hetherington told the YEP:

"It is a tremendous achievement that, given recent high profile cases, the Carnegie Stand will not only be ready on schedule, but will also be on budget."
Many Rugby League fans will be surprised to hear that the new stand is the first major devopment at Headingley since the 1930s, especially given the decades of success Leeds RL enjoyed in the 1960s and 1970s. Nonetheless, everyone one is looking forward to the official opening in September. Gary Hetherington continued to say,
"The opening night on September 1 will be an historic occasion for Headingley Carnegie Stadium."
On that night the Leeds Rhinos will be looking for revenge against the Warrington Wolves for the comprehensive away defeat they suffered at their hands earlier this season. The Rhinos were stuffed 44-16 at the start of May, and worse still the game was televised live on Sky! The home game against the Wolves on Friday 1st September is not scheduled to be shown on Sky. The kick-off is set for 8pm.
